The Centre of Excellence for Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research (CEGIIR) is associated with the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta.
CEGIIR is devoted to research on gastrointestinal and liver diseases, including inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders, non-ulcer dyspepsia, gastric infection with Helicobacter pylori, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), viral hepatic and biliary disorders, and their associated gastrointestinal cancers.
The CEGIIR Biobank was established in 2008, and contains more than 85,000 human samples (blood, urine, human tissue, breast milk, cord blood, etc.) collected from more than 5,000 adults specifically for microbiome research. Samples are collected and processed using a standardized protocol. Archived tissues are de-identified but linked to individual metadata describing clinical conditions, environmental exposures, dietary intake, early life exposures, familial information, anatomical locations of isolation, demographic information of the donor (including sex), and associated genotyping or genome information.
Read the article below for more details, which includes a list of helpful links at the end.
