IMPACTT

Integrated Microbiome Platforms for Advancing Causation Testing and Translation

Harnessing the power of the microbiome to promote human health

What is IMPACTT?

IMPACTT is the multi-disciplinary microbiome research core funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to build Canada’s microbiome research community and strengthen Canada’s position as an international leader in microbiome research. We provide support, expertise, and leadership to microbiome researchers across Canada.

IMPACTT stands for Integrated Microbiome Platforms for Advancing Causation Testing and Translation. The IMPACTT core is composed of five platforms led by sixteen renowned scientific experts, and supports a wide variety of studies in the microbiome field, including animal studies, human cohort studies, the establishment of human tissue and microbe repositories, multi-omics studies, and the development of new bioinformatics tools to analyze microbiome data. IMPACTT also provides resources on conducting ethical microbiome studies and including sex and gender considerations into experimental design, as well as opportunities for mentorship and education within the microbiome field.

IMPACTT-ful Mission

Our mission is to support the Canadian microbiome research community, to contribute to the advancement of microbiome research worldwide, and to have a positive impact on the health of living organisms. We aim to harness the power of our microbes to identify novel therapeutic and preventative approaches and promote human health, while connecting researchers across Canada, acting as a network for basic, translational, and clinical microbiome research.
